When Did Tony Horton Leave Beachbody?
Yes he did leave if this is new news to you. Around 2018, Tony Horton got with his the team to look for a new training model while also making the decision to leave Beachbody. Although he continues tweaking his workouts, followers don't see him much. After building his own home workout programs through other organizations, Next Level was launched in 2019 and is still on Amazon.
If you have a Tonal or looking to get one (great machine by the way) you will find Tony Horton workouts on there as well. He also launched the Power of 4, which mainly goes into detail on exercise, supplements, nutrition, and mindfulness. While we're glad to see him take more creative control over the routines, they're difficult to come by unless you follow his social media platforms.
Tony has no ill will toward Beachbody and says he will always be a part of the team based on a statement he gave below:
“A lot of folks are asking why I left Beachbody. The truth is, I never left. I’ve been lucky enough to work with a couple of other companies to pursue some passion projects, but my love and support for the company that changed my life, and yours have never wavered. My good friend, two time heart attack survivor, P90X and 22MHC fan Juan U. drove to LA to train with me and the Sunday gang for his 56th birthday. Get Some!”
Tony Horton Illness What Do We Know?
Tony Horton in late 2017 was diagnosed with shingles, but not just any shingles it was a rare one called Ramsay Hunt syndrome type 2. It actually affects the facial nerves and is very painful.
Here is what Tony had to say about it on October 24, 2017:
What started as a perfectly normal day ended up with a trip to the emergency room and a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. This battle has taught me quite a few lessons; many lessons I thought I had already learned, and thought I was putting into practice. Shingles is caused by stress, and apparently, I've been stressed and wasn't even aware of it. Now it's time for me to look at how I suppress my emotions and try to fight through everything with exercise alone. Apparently, I'm going to have to re-read my own book The Big Picture, and find the balance again. Actually, I'm excited to start this new chapter in my life. Less anger, less frustration, better communication, and really enjoying the simple things more. I hope by revealing all of this, that maybe there's a lesson or nugget in here for you as well. Sometimes we all need to take a step back and continually reevaluate our lives to make sure we're still on task and haven't just fallen into a new pattern. I'm still learning too.
What Diet Does Tony Horton Follow? Is He Vegan?
Tony has tried many different ways of eating with a balanced meal plan to a more vegan plant-based diet. Just like with most healthy people they adjust as they age and based on the bumps in the road you hit with your health.
For Tony this was shingles and the rare form he came face to face with. Tony's man mantra is to eat healthy 90% of the time and he is right if you do this and don't over eat the other 10% you will reach your goals.
Through a vegan diet that included only healthy whole foods like not corn, no wheat, no soy, and no dairy or meat, plus workouts and a daily work ethic that left most people half his age in the dust, Horton rebuilt his strength and body.
That's not even mentioning the fact that he follows a recovery routine of Epsom salt baths, foam rolling, and his Theragun to “balance the scales” and return things to a tranquil state with the assistance of a mental health technique that now prioritizes “other” important discipline: Appreciating life, wife, and quality time together
“You have to let the pendulum swing back the other way,” from the stress and a “go-go-go” attitude that he now believes may have accelerated his body shutdown and illness.
Tony Horton has a new company, Power Life. He believes that judgmental people who look down on him are the ones to blame. He loves life, and he's not exactly taking it slow, but doing things his own way.
He also promotes his newest creation, a pre-biotic, probiotic formula to “fill in the gaps” in nutrition called Foundation Four along with his Ninja-course workouts in his backyard with pals and associates.
He has a disorder called leaky gut, which causes him to have many stomach upsets. It delivers organic greens, fiber, magnesium and helps with digestive issues caused by his illness, including the inelegantly named condition known as leaky gut.
You can read about other nutritional guidelines he followed including his 3 step approach: Choose Foods With Only 1 Ingredient, Eat Dirty Snacks, Re-shake to Reshape your Body. This article can be found HERE!
There is also an article on Beachbody's website that goes through an entire day with Tony Horton from wakeup to sleep to the next day. It is a nice look behind the curtains of his lifestyle and it was written on July 22, 2020. A Day In The Life: Tony Horton

Tony Horton's Workouts Through The Years
Tony has created some amazing workouts especially during his time with Beachbody and really put them and himself on the map with P90X of course. The other ones include 10 minute trainer (still have these DVD's, P90X2, P90X3, Power 90, Double Time, Next Level and of course 22 Minute Hard Corps.
Below we go into some that we have tried and that you should try yourself. Tony is a great man and always has been whether it was bringing laughter as a comedian or being a local trainer in California. He has impacted many lives in a positive way and is just really down to earth and stays humble at all times.
P90X
Where it really all took off with infomercials and such there was a time where you couldn't go a day without seeing some kind of commercial about P90X. P90X's main goal is to create muscle confusion through a variety of workouts that are constantly changing.
P90X was created by Tony Horton and it is still one of his most famous programs. The program consists of 12 DVDs, which you complete in 90 days. You also need some equipment, like dumbbells, resistance bands, and a pull-up bar.
The program is designed to work your entire body, with a focus on resistance training and cardio. The idea is that by constantly changing up the workouts, you don't get bored and your muscles never know what's coming next. This also helps to avoid plateaus in your fitness progress.
P90X is a great program for people who are already relatively fit and want to get in shape. It's also a great jumping off point for people who are interested in fitness but don't know where to start, since the P90X program has you working out six days per week with at least one rest day each week.
P90X is intense and challenging—it was design for beginners up to advanced. Doesn't matter where you are at in your fitness journey adding P90X will help advance you to the next level.
The intermediate to advanced workout program is P90X. It has a variety of calendars for YOUR goals, which I appreciate. Plyometrics, ab work, martial arts, and yoga are all part of P90X. The sessions are usually one hour long and utilize a blend of high and low-impact exercise, as well as a fantastic nutrition plan.
P90
It was the first program he created for Beachbody, but they just completely redid it – new workouts, new nutrition, and even a new marketing campaign. It's such an improvement. The original was fantastic, but the video quality and meal plan are much higher now.
P90X is the most well-known version of P90X. The exercises are 20-45 minutes long and include both strength and cardio routines. They're low-impact to protect your knees, and they gradually increase in intensity each month to keep your body interested!
P90X2
P90X2 is a different breed of P90x that is for sure. So I would start with P90X then go onto this one. The great thing about P90X workouts is there are a lot of hybrid calendars out there so you can literally pick the workouts you enjoy and get the best results from to put them together into one glorious workout program.
All the workouts are around 50-60 minutes and are alike to P90X just longer and more advanced.
P90X3
This program is basically P90X just done in 30 minutes. I do like how Beachbody does this with their programs similar to Insanity then they came out with Insanity Max :30 which is you guessed it a condensed version of the original Insanity.
P90X3 does add more variety to the workouts and is actually a favorite of ours because you get just enough Tony Horton to get the job done quickly.
10 Minute Trainer
10 Minute Trainer was the first time I really go to do a Tony Horton workout. These were great only have 10 minutes do a 10 minute workout have 20 minutes do another one have another 10 do another one. You could string together as much as time would allow. I loved the yoga stretch one probably the most because it helped my body realign. I still have these DVD's they can be found on Ebay if you want to get them for very cheap.
22 Minute Hard Corp
Although we haven't gone through this entire program we have done most of the workouts as add ons to hybrids or one offs.
Yes each workout is 22 minutes and you move nonstop pretty much so make sure you get your mind right before doing these workouts. They also have what is called Hell Week Challenge where you do two a days to get leaner and faster. Make sure you check with your doctor before accepting this challenge.
Final Thoughts
Tony Horton is Beachbody's most popular trainer, with a string of successful workout programs under his belt. From P90X to 10 Minute Trainer, Tony has a program that will fit your fitness level and help you reach your goals. His latest offering, P90X3, is a condensed 30-minute version of the original 90-day program that is perfect for beginners or those short on time. If you're looking for an intense but challenging workout program, try one of Tony Horton's many offerings—you won't be disappointed!
